Hardcore foodies! Whet your appetites! And get ready as we embark on this 4-hour walking tour around the Joo Chiat/Katong district to uncover the sights, sounds and tastes of this delightful enclave of eastern Singapore.

ITINERARY

First stop - Dunman Food Centre.  It may be one of the smallest hawker centres in Singapore, but it packs a big punch no less with a range of heritage food stalls that never fail to draw in hordes of hungry foodie fans during mealtimes. We’re talking about such tasty treats as tau kwa pau, wantan noodles, Indian vadai and other local delights.
 
Continue next with a leisurely stroll along Joo Chiat Road, remembering to admire several beautiful examples of conservation Peranakan shophouse architecture that line this historical street.
 
Arriving in Katong which lies at the end of Joo Chiat Road, visitors will be treated with the sight of a giant mural reflecting the origin behind the name ‘Katong’, and gain more insights into the eclectic Peranakan (Straits Chinese) heritage and culture of Singapore which have come to be affectionately ascribed to the Katong enclave.
 
Yong’s Teochew Kueh shop provides the perfect excuse to pick up some more heritage nosh - snacks like soon kueh (turnip fillings), orh kueh (yam fillings), png kueh (sticky rice fillings) and koo chye kueh (chives fillings) are what the queues at Yong’s seek to purchase and take home ... whilst stocks last!
 
The final food stop to crown your visit to Katong, is none other than at the famous ‘328 Katong Laksa’ eatery.  The richly complex yet satisfying flavours of Katong laksa shall provide a fitting and unforgettable close to your food jaunt around Katong/Joo Chiat.

    2. How are the food stalls selected?

      All Tribe's resident foodies verified these as much try stalls. As they say, "THE TRIBE HAS SPOKEN!!!"

    3. Do I need to pay for food? How much shall I bring?

      Food costs are included in the tour, so there is no need to pay for the food. That said, there are a few stops where if you like to dabao home, that's on you. Also, there will be stops where the food is not covered but Anthony will point out to you. So you may want to bring along your wallet or phone for digital payments.
